Panasonic DMC-TS10 14.1 Megapixel Waterproof Reviews Roundup

Panasonic today announces the Lumix DMC-TS10 (aka FT10) tough all-action compact digital camera. It features a 14.1 Megapixels sensor and a 4x zoom lens. The Panasonic DMC-TS10 is waterproof to 3m (or 10 feet), shockproof to 1.5m (or 5 feet), freezeproof to -10 degrees C and dustproof. The DMC-TS10 is not quite as rugged as the existing model, such as the DMC-TS2 (aka FT2) can support waterproof to 10m and shockproof to 2 meters.

The camera comes with Panasnoic iA (Intelligent Auto) mode which makes it easy for anyone to take beautiful photos by various shooting-assist functions. There is MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) for hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control for subject movement, Face Detection and Intelligent Scene Selector. With the DMC-FT10, HD (High Definition) movie recording in 720p Motion JPEG is available. The 2.7-inch large Intelligent LCD with AR coating assures high visibility of photo and movies both in shooting and playing back the images.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS10 has a MSRP price of $249.95 and beginning shipping mid-September. It will be offered in red, blue, black and silver colors.
Like its predecessor, the TS2 features a 28mm wide-angle lens with a 4.6x zoom with a scratch-resistant 2.7-inch LCD display, and can record high-definition movies in AVCHD Lite or Motion JPEG formats at a 1,280x720-pixel, high-definition resolution. Unlike the TS1, the TS2 can record not just to SD and SDHC cards but also to super-high-capacity SDXC cards. The TS1 surpassed the Olympus Tough-8000 in terms of image quality, and the TS2 promises to improve it further via the new 'Intelligent Resolution' image-processing technology and a higher 14.1 Megapixel resolution sensor. It also offers optical image stabilisation that's apparently twice as effective as its predecessor's.

Panasonic DMC-TS10 Camera Reviews Roundup

Steve's Digicam: "The image quality of our outdoor images is very good overall. In most of the images we can see an excellent exposure and very rich colors throughout the photos. In our museum sample, which has a high dynamic range with the dark shadows, the camera exposed them well but greatly overexposed the highlights. All of compacts that we have tested in this manner have struggled with this shot so far. The 5x optical zoom lens..." - Nov 02 2010 More »

User Review of the camera - Panasonic DMC-TS10

    nice rugged camera, Craig H
My Fuji xp10 waterproof camera died for no apparent reason, so I bought this panasonic to take on a 5k mud obstacle race. It held up just fine, took nice pictures and at the end I just rinsed it off. I like the silicone bumper cover that comes with it. It's just a point and shoot camera, so I don't expect high end performance, but I can take it snorkling or white water rafting or skiing without worrying about it and get pictures I never would have gotten with my SLR.

Nice little camera from Panasonic, PK5353
I purchased this camera before taking a trip to Mexico in September 2011. It's not the most expensive camera, so I was hoping for it to last the trip. It performed admirably. Went swimming in the Carribean and used the camera without any leakage. Pictures are acceptable and can be tweaked with Photoshop. Went snorkeling in brackish and salt water a few days later and was pleased with it's performance. It did not leak and the pictures were good of the fish and underwater terrain. Understand these are not going to look like something out of National Geographic, but the results will bring back some pleasant memories. One thing I did do was inspect the camera and seals after reading the manual thoroughly. After using it I let it sit in fresh water for a while then wiped and let it dry off. Only then did I open the door for the SD Card and battery. I also let it dry open for an hour or so, wiped the gaskets and then carefully closed the door.
I'm taking it with me on another vacation shortly.

    Good camera, whimpy zoom, RandyR1963
So far this camera has worked as promised. User friendly and intuitive controls. The 4x zoom isn't much, but was a trade-off for the waterproof/shockproof ruggedness. I would buy this again.

Point and Shoot College gift, R. Overall
Bought two of these, one red, one orange, for graduating college nephew and graduating high school. They used it on a family trip abroad, and liked them. Small, water resistant, adequate for a point-and-shoot purposes, the photo copies sent to me were quite good. They felt the camera did a good job in most situations, though (as is common) low light situations were less than ideal. Still, both boys are active, the camera fits their often hectic lifestyles at school, dating, at the beach, etc. Remembering my own college days, they wouldn't want a bulky camera, or one that requires a lot of fiddling to get a picture or put it on their computers. So they tell me that for everyday photos, where they want a little more than a smartphone's limited ability, but don't want to haul out some hi-def SLR (if they had one) either, this rugged little cam fits that niche perfectly. Glad it "hit the spot" for them. This is a very good point-and-shoot. However, I am told Panasonic quit making the batteries for them, so make sure to buy a spare if you can find one, or find a source for a third party battery is available. I like my Lumix cameras, but their batteries are commonly available.

    Lumix DMC-TS10, Edward Frederick
This is a very nice and somewhat rugged camera. I have purchased 7 Lumix cameras so far (some given as gifts) and am very pleased with all of them. This is the first rugged one, and I am thinking about getting another to give as a Christmas gift. My daughter uses this one on a weekly basis. No complaints.

Some quirks, but GREAT for reviewing frame-by-frame video, Todd Minnella
I have tested the camera's waterproof-ness (on purpose) and drop-proof-ness (by accident, onto concrete) and it is still doing great. I also like that this camera has no protruding lens and easily fits in your pocket.
I use this camera almost exclusively for HD video at amateur sporting events. If you have a need to take and very quickly review video frame-by-frame, this camera is OUTSTANDING at it. The buttons/interface for play/pause and prev/next frame are all right there - you don't have to navigate around to find the "next frame" menu item, like you do on some other cameras. It is very easy and very fast to use.
The quirk that I have come to work around is that this camera does not stop recording when you press the button to stop. Instead, it trims the video to 1-2 seconds BEFORE you pressed the button to stop recording. So I have learned to just let it record well past the event that I want to review before stopping the recording.
The battery has lasted me about 60 minutes of near-constant use (recording, then reviewing frame-by-frame video).

    Great camera, Dawn Cooper
We bought this camera for my 7 year old daughter for her birthday. She loves taking pictures, and the old Fisher Price camera she got when she was 3 wasn't cutting it anymore with its blurry images and poor quality. She loves this camera and takes it everywhere. It stands up to everything a 7 year old girl puts it through - she has dropped it, fallen with it on her wrist, banged it into furniture while having it strapped to her wrist.
Some things to note - it is ALWAYS attached to the wrist strap on her wrist, and it is ALWAYS in its silicone sleeve.
The camera has terrific battery life - this girl loves to make movies of herself and her little brother, and takes a million pictures a day. The image quality is very good. All in all, this is a great camera for the price, and is good for a responsible child.

    Better Then I Thought, KP
This is an AWESOME camera. Took it to Punta Cana played in the ocean left it in the sand and it was ok. It comes with really good directions and if you follow them then you won't mess the camera up. The only downside is that there is a huge lag in-between pictures and there is no zoom on the video feature.

The BEST underwater camera for the price!, glasscastle
I did a lot of homework before buying my underwater camera and I decided on this one. I absolutely LOVE it. I took it on a cruise to Mexico and I took pictures underwater while I was snorkeling, in the pool, in a Jacuzzi (even though you really shouldn't). The image quality is great although the menu screen is a bit outdated, it takes good pictures. I also love that you can drop it and nothing will happen to it (my last digital fell when my boyfriend put it on self timer and it fell). The color is beautiful and your friends will definitely want to borrow it to take pictures in places their cameras won't go. On the cruise, two sets of girls asked us to take underwater pictures of them and email the pictures to them because they saw how much fun we were having with it. It's a great camera that is definitely going to last you a LONG time whether you have kids that like to play with your gadgets or are a beach person or like to do underwater activities.

In one word, WOW!, D. Rubens
I bought this camera for a snokeling trip to Bora Bora. I was a little reluctant to spend this much money, but I cannot over-emphasize how pleased I am with the performance the quality of this camera. It takes amazingly clear photos and videos both in and out of the water. I had it fully submerged in salt water for up to 6 hours per day, and it continued to work flawlessly. The friends I was traveling with were equally impressed by the quality of the photos and videos. I could go on and on, but I'll just conclude by saying that if you are thinking about purchasing this camera, don't hesitate. I'm so glad I didn't buy something less expensive or a disposable because now I have some truly great pictures and videos from our trip and not a bunch of blurry, washed-out, low quality junk.
