Nikon S6000 14.2 Megapixel Stylish Reviews Roundup

On February 2 2010, Nikon added four new Coolpix S-Series cameras to their lineup - the Nikon Coolpix S3000, Nikon Coolpix S4000, Nikon Coolpix S6000 and Nikon Coolpix S8000. The Nikon Coolpix S8000 is the world's slimmest (just 27.3mm thin) wide-angle 10x zoom camera which also boasts a DSLR-class autofocus system.

The S8000 features a 14.2 Megapixels sensor with a 10x optical zoom lens at 28mm wide angle. It comes with a 3inch 921,000-dot Clear Color Display LCD on which to frame and review images and movies. The camera supports ISO 3200 and a 4-way VR Image stabilization System. The high-definition movie function with stereo sound offers a resolution of 720p and a frame rate of 30 frames per second. The camera includes a new feature called the Creative Slider, which simplifies adjusting brightness, saturation and color tone in-camera by utilizing the Rotary Multi Selector. Like the S6000, it also support Sport Continuous Mode and Advanced Flash Control. The S8000 has the ability to acquire the subject and lock focus using Subject Tracking.

Nikon Coolpix S6000 Camera Reviews Roundup

CNET - Aug 30 2010
"The photo quality from the Nikon S6000 is good to very good, but it really depends on how you intend to use the photos. The biggest issue is regardless of ISO sensitivity, the photos are soft, meaning you'll never get very sharp fine detail directly from this camera. As the ISOs go higher, the photos get softer from noise reduction. It can be improved by sh..." More »

Digital Camera Review - Jul 19 2010
"By far the best aspect of the images produced by the S6000 are their highly accurate color. In virtually every picture I took the colors appeared to be spot on. Part of the reason is the excellent auto white balance that the camera produces, both indoors and outdoors. In case you're unhappy with the auto white balance, you do have the option of using a..." More »

    Terrible, A Customer
Bought this because I have a NIKON DSLR that I like. Owned this camera for about a year and it stopped working. I barely used it. Sent it to NIKON and they quoted $100 to fix. No thanks. For point and shoot, go Canon! Run from NIKON.

While picture quality is above average, the speed with which it reliably takes shots varies. If you are expecting a camera you can just point and shoot, think twice about this one. I've found that it occasionally "hangs" while I'm pressing the button. If this is that the camera is recharging to flash or something is out of focus, this is not made plain. There are better cameras available. Memory is terrific, movies are OK (no zoom available after mode activation). Downloading is a breeze. Just not a moderate action camera.

    Disappointment, petet
The pictures dont turn out very nice, low light are especially bad. Also, I had to ship it back because of a lens error. Now it has a new lens error. Total disappointment. Would not recommend to anyone. I am moving away from Nikon after this, too many bad experiences.

Nikon Coolpix S6000 Review, FL Z-Man 777 "Bass Man"
Pros: great quality little pocket camera. Decent pictures and zoom features, good close up and pretty good dim light performance. Great stabilization feature. Nice audio video quality as well.
The negative goes to Nikon's choice of having a proprietary USB connection for battery charging and picture access. Replacement USB cables are very pricey and usually only available at camera stores carrying the Nikon brand. Cables are much cheaper online and can work great. Even when using Nikon cables for the year I owned the camera, the USB connection at the camera failed just outside the 1 year warranty. Fortunately I'd purchased an extended warranty that covered the repair.

Great Pictures, Horrid Repair Record, MNSnowflake
I LOVE the pictures this camera takes, but have had to send it in for lens repairs 4 times in the 11 months since I bought it! Each time the problem is said to have been fixed, but within a few months I have to send it back. I think I've only had it in my possession for 7 of those 11 months, due to shipping and repairing. I don't know if mine is just a fluke or if there are others with these problems, but I would think twice and then three times before buying another Nikon.

This is my 2nd camera purchase in 11 months. I bought this same camera and dropped it on concrete - ooops! I loved it for the picture quality, ease of use and it's ready to shoot quickly, much better than other models. I preferred to buy this model again over the newer one with the touch screen because it is so easy to adjust your settings without messing up the image area with fingerprints. Super camera as an easy extra camera for fun shots.

Great small camera, Jason in Hollywood

I loved this Coolpix camera - it takes great photos and has a great zoom for such a small camera which fits into your pocket.
However, the only problem I have with Nikon cameras, and maybe this is actually a digital camera issue, is that they keep getting specs under the lens. Not scratches on the lens itself, but dust/matter inside on the sensor so that dots appear on every picture. It's my second Nikon camera that this has happened to. The first I sent away to repair (which took around 8 weeks, which is not great when you use every day), on this camera it happened after the 1 year warranty expired, so I bought a new camera instead.

i hate this camerea, top cat
BUYER BEWARE - this is a horrid camera. I have bought many digital cameras and this is the worst camera I have ever owned. I bought this camera close to a year ago for close to $200 and it has never worked right. MY BAD I should have taken it back, but I thought it was my problem, a setting I was putting in wrong or something, finally read other reviews and saw that my problem was the camera problem. My wife has a 4 year old Sony that takes better pictures. I have another Fuji camera that is 3 years old that is better, and it has a broken flash, also I bought an old Cannon on ebay for a paltry $40 that takes better pictures.
Trust yourself... it isn't you. It is the camera. Take it back now before the warranty makes you keep it..
