Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Camera Reviews Roundup
| DigitalReview: "We were pleased with the performance of the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS in our tests. The camera powers up responsively, and the comfortably positioned zoom lever next to the shutter button makes framing images a simple step. Buttons and controls are well layed out and are easy to operate. The 4x image stabilized zoom lens incorporated into the Canon SD1400 IS provides good image quality. | Trusted Reviews: "In terms of low light shooting, when switching off the built-in flash and utilising available light we were pleasantly surprised by the camera's performance over and above ISO400, with noise not really creeping in until ISO800 and then only very subtly. At ISO1600 we are beginning to lose definition across the image, but unlike on even cheaper compacts, the result still resembles a photograph rather than a watercolo..." - Jan 19 2011 More » | |
| TechRadar: "Even if the Ixus 130 was expensive, we'd still like it. For every person who wants to be able to control every facet of taking a picture, there are hundreds who simply want something that will capture a moment without asking all kinds of complicated questions. The Ixus 130 is exactly that camera. We liked: The headline has to be the price - if you opt for the Ixus 130 in black you can get it for under £150, whi..." - Sep 07 2010 More » | |
| Imaging Resource: "The Canon SD1400 is one of the most attractive ELPHs Canon has designed. The slim design with rounded corners is also pretty smart; and what's also smart is the enhanced Smart Auto mode that can set the camera 22 different ways so you don't have to fiddle. If you want to fiddle, Program mode gives you access to everything but the aperture and shutter speed. And, of course, you can always fiddle with the 4x opti..." - Jun 04 2010 More » | |
| CameraLab: "Our biggest complaint with the earlier IXUS 100 IS / SD780 IS was its unremarkable 3x zoom range which lacked true wide-angle capabilities. That's now been addressed with a broader 4x range on the IXUS 130 / SD1400 IS which includes 28mm coverage. Annoyingly you still can't optically zoom while filming video, but the range is much more flexible for normal photography. The optical viewfinder of its predecessor m..." - May 16 2010 More » | |
| CNET: "The 130 is a truly beautiful little camera, but it does have flaws. No-one would expect professional image quality from a tiny camera, but the 130's 14.1-megapixel sensor might lead you to expect pictures that are better than average. You won't get them, however. The 1/2.3-inch sensors used in today's compact cameras are just too small to deliver really impressive pictures, and continually hiking the megapixel..." - Apr 01 2010 More » | |
| Photography BLOG: "The Canon Digital IXUS 130 continues the long-standing IXUS tradition of small, stylish and well-built cameras, with the added benefit of being the slimmest model to date. The high price and merely average image quality do take some of the sheen off what is otherwise a very nice point-and-shoot. With its well-constructed metal body, slim profile and classic styling, the IXUS 130 is an understated yet eye-catchi..." - Mar 24 2010 More » | |
| Digital Camera Review: "The image quality of Canon's small cameras is consistently good, and the SD1400 is no exception. Colors are strong, but realistic. The images are sharp, thanks to the high quality lens. Overexposure sometimes affected the photos because the SD1400 IS's (1/2.3 inch type) small sensor has a limited dynamic range. However, Canon's i-Contrast feature helps to compensate for the setback. The SD1400 IS has white bala..." - Mar 19 2010 More » | |
| infoSync: "Like the Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS, we were given Fisheye, Miniature, Low Light, and plenty of other shooting presets to warm the hearts of camerphobes and beginners near and far. However, the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS offered Exposure, White Balance, ISO, and we could alter the shutter speed up to 15 seconds in "Long Shutter" mode. Face Detection in did an admirable job in small crowds, but couldn't handl..." - Mar 12 2010 More » |

User Review of the camera - Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS
Couldn't Do Without It, Kenneth Adam Kinder
I purchased this camera once before. Loved it then, love it now. My husband broke the first one by dropping it on its lens. He replaced it for me with the same exact model since I liked it so much and was used to its controls.
When you take a photograph it shows up right away on the viewing screen. I took off the auto-review. There is a pause between the picture you just snapped and the ability to take the next photo. It never bothered me before, until I read the reviews. Now I notice. But I'm pretty sure it has an option to take several photos in quick succession, I just haven't tried it yet.
Lightweight, looks slick, takes nice photographs, fun to use... couldn't ask for too much more from a digital point and shoot!
just what i was looking for, christine grundmeyer
small and compact, good photos. quick snap. easy to use. very reasonably priced. i would highly recommend it, had done some research prior to purchase.
A great portable camera - takes photos well in lots of situations, Barn
First, you have to realize this is not a $700 canon SLR with a $700 lens. This is a really compact and handy camera that takes really great pictures. I've used mine for 2.5 years and while one of my brothers and one of my sisters have very nice SLR digital cameras, those are bulky and hard to carry around. Those expensive cameras take professional quality photos, but this little camera comes close enough. I take a lot of photos of family events and work projects. The situations carry from dim light in basements, to dusk scenes, to the sunny outdoors, to indoor lighting and flourescent lighting. In all these situations the camera does a very good job! I've been excited to have it, and excited is the right word. It carries so easily in jeans or shirt pocket, it has many modes of photo taking, and I've gotten several people asking me for information on my camera when they see my photos.
The portability of this tool, and the quality of the movies and photos it takes - these are what I'm still excited about after 2.5 years. I love this camera. I also recommend buying this charger, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026O57BA/ "Brand New Nb-4l Battery Home Travel Rapid Charger with Car Adapter for Canon PowerShot SD780 IS" for keeping a spare battery charged for fast replacement. On 5-7-2013 this charger costs $5.07. A spare battery, a NB-4L, costs another $5 or so. The battery last a pretty long time, though - for most people the extra charger won't be needed.
Gift for my BF, Jasmine McCants
My bf had recently lost his phone with great pictures he had been eyeing this phone for a long time. It takes fantastic pictures and he is happy about the camera.
2nd Camera that I purchased, Jeffrey Goodman
Good point and shoot Camera. Bought one for my daughter a few years ago, and now I bought one for myself.
Great camera, Jon Benton
This is a pretty great camera for the price, I find that the Sony cameras however are thinner and come with more features and is more worth the price.

very good camera, kristy156
This is a great camera!!! I find that I like the Sony cameras better though, just because they are thinner and they actually take much better pictures.

Canon PowerShot SD1400IS, Johnsgirl O'reilly
Love this little thing. I agree with other comments that it is a little hard to hang onto at times but I have had no other problems and it is easy to carry around. I also bought the Juicy Box carrier which works well with each other
Clear pictures. Slight delay when pushing the button but not a real hinderence. Nice size viewing screen.
Poor quality!, Jessica Z.
Now it's over two years since I purchased this camera, I didn't use it often. It has been kept well. However, it has a big problem that it doesn't work unless I pull out and insert the battery repeatedly. Weird! It's a waste of money.
Great Little Camera, Shelly J. Healey
I bought this camera for my son to take with him to a foreign country for two years. It has held up very well, taken great pictures, and is easy to bring along. I'm very happy with this purchase, and with the photos he sends home. I'd definitely recommend it.
great little camera, Robert Patton
This small camera fits just about anywhere, including a shirt pocket. It has many features and a good zoom capability. The pixils provide for good clarity especially in the macro mode.
Amazing, Jael
I'm so happy I bought this camera. It's one of the best cameras I have owned. I'm sure new technology moves fast, but this camera can even shoot in the dark. Pretty amazing in my book :)
camera, conley carlton
after carefully comparing others in this class there was too many options to pass on. would definitely recommend this to anyone.
nice camera but too slow and too slim profile, JPX925
My first digital camera was a Canon SD700 from 7-8 years ago and had been very pleased with its performance and durability. I was looking to update it and was choosing between a few Canon models. I had at home with me for comparison an ELPH110 HS and an SX260 HS but I thought of trying another SD and got this SD1400. This takes sharp pictures on still though still a bit slow and not quite clear when taking pictures of my fast-moving dogs. What I didn't like about it too is that it is so slim that, as one reviewer pointed out, it's like holding a slippery bar of soap in your hand. I cannot lay it upright because it is so narrow and it just felt so unsecure in my hands when I use it. Like him, I also didn't like the tab control for the zoom. I ended up returning this model.
Nice little camera, Susan Ann Marzi
It takes nice pictures and video. It's small and easy to carry around. The battery lasts a long time. Recommended very satisfied with camera
Great image, Dharmesh K. Gnansivam "Dharmesh"
I bought this camera for my friend,, and i have used it too.. this is very handy and great picture quality..... I recommend this product
Awesome Camera, Robin Thompson
This is a great little point and click camera. I was looking for something very small and compact. This camera has worked flawlessly every time.
Beautiful pictures, Carol L Wollaston
Bought it to take pictures for my eBay store and it works very well for that purpose. Hard to change settings - kind of complicated, I think.
Cute camera, donttellmewhat2do
I bought this camera a couple years ago and have enjoyed it ever since. It takes excellent pictures if you have a steady hand, a tripod, or something steady to sit it on. The zoom, unfortunately, is not good at all. That was one of my first complaints about the camera. If you zoom in much at all, the picture becomes grainy and dark. With minimal zooming or no zoom at all, however, the pictures tend to be great! Also, when taking videos particularly, the camera seems to take a while to focus. So if you are trying quickly to get a video started, sometimes the result can be blurry. The size of the camera is a huge plus. It is very small and compact. Overall I would recommend it while noting those few flaws.
Adequate but not exceptional, lucky buckeye
I purchased this camera, which came highly rated, when my old one wore out. It works well, but not exceptionally. It is quite slow on the rebound between pictures, even with an upgraded high speed photo disk. The pictures are average or better. This camera works reasonably and has decent ergonomics, but I think there are better choices available.
