Average Camera Review Rating [5 reviews]
On January 5 2011, Sony announced five new 16.2 Megapixels Cyber-shot digital still cameras - models DSC-TX100V, DSC-TX10, DSC-HX7V, DSC-WX10 and DSC-WX9. These cameras features a "Exmor R" back-illuminated CMOS sensor and are the world's first compact digital still cameras to include 3D Still Image mode for taking 3D images using only one lens and imager. They also have innovative Dual Rec (record) technology, for taking still photos during video capture. Other features include:

  • Full HD 1080@60i with Dual Rec of stills and movies
  • Sony® G lens with 10x optical zoom in a compact camera body
  • Fast capture with up to 10fps at full 16.2 Megapixels resolution; "Exmor R" CMOS sensor for exceptional low-light performance
  • 3D Still Image and 3D Sweep Panorama modes change the way you view your world
  • GPS and Compass record shot location and direction

The DSC-HX7V is available in black, white, red and blue colors. It's currently selling at around $270. Here's the summary of review by LetsGoDigital, giving the camera a raring of 4.5 out of 5:

"The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V digital camera has many user-friendly functions in order to shoot better photos and HD-videos. With built-in GPS, this Sony camera is ideal for travel. The GPS function shows your position on the screen while travelling and afterwards you can see exactly where the photos and videos were shot. The Sony CyberShot HX7V camera also offers a function for super-fast recording at 10 fps with a full resolution of 16.2 megapixels. Additionally, the Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V digital camera is equipped with an improved HDR function, which takes eye-catching details, mid shades and shadows from three separate shots, and compiles them in order to create one realistic-looking photo. The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V is easy to operate. There are a few small points of criticism, such as the jog dial being a bit small. In turn, you do get a nice, big screen, but this does not make for fast operation. You also have to watch out that you do not press the video button by accident. While holding the camera in your right hand, it is easy to push this button accidentally. Additionally, after starting up the camera, it takes a bit too much time before you can use the zoom function, which is especially noticeable when you quickly want to capture a spontaneous moment in which zooming in is necessary.

The Sony CyberShot DSC-HX7V is easy to operate and is very user-friendly, despite a couple of shortcomings. The 16.2 megapixel digital camera takes nice, clear photos and offers a good price-quality ratio for a retail price of 250 Euros. "

This camera is ligth and take excellents photos. Smart and easy to use. Sony cameras are good for pro and amateurs photographers. I recommend it....

good picture quality, cute, but definitely a little slow, R. Mann "sdavenport" - Jan 08 2013
i like the camera (got it in blue), but i certainly don't love it. the quality of the pictures is great, and it takes excellent pictures without a flash (as others have mentioned). it's not so small that it's hard to handle, but also easily drops into a pocket. the rubber grip on the side is great - you can actually keep a hold on it, even if you're moving about - and...

A noticable difference from my last "point and shoot", VA hiker - Nov 12 2012
Excellent quality pictures! Although it looks like a normal "point and shoot," the pictures are very professional looking. I am and inexperienced photographer used to a Cannon, which I can whip in and out of action at any time. Although this camera takes an extra second to warm up, the pictures are worth it!...
