On July 7 2010, Sony announced three new digital compact cameras - the Cyber-shot DSC-WX5, DSC-TX9 and DSC-T99 digital compacts. The WX5 and TX9 incorporate a 12.2 Megapixels Exmor R back illuminated CMOS sensor. | Trusted Reviews: "We found that the differences between shots taken in Superior Auto Adjustment mode and regular auto adjustment mode on the Sony WX5 were quite subtle. If anything the Superior mode has the more digitally 'processed' look of the two. Also, because detail is maintained in both shadows and highlights in Superior mode and shoehorned into the same image, the overall result can appear a bit flat and lacking in contrast. F..." - Feb 23 2011 More » | |
| ePhotoZine: "Whether shooting at the wide-angle or telephoto length the Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor does not disappoint. When viewed at full size there is plenty of detail retained throughout the images and colours are well represented. Photographers who prefer to leave their camera in auto are spoilt by Sony here with a choice of two; superior auto adjustment which shoots sharp images, reduces blur and noise automatically and..." - Jan 18 2011 More » | |
| Photography BLOG: "In providing one touch Full HD video recording in stereo and 3D capability (up to a point), the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX5 offers good value for anyone wanting all the latest must-haves in one pocket sized package that won't cause the bailiffs to come knocking. If it's the 3D facility that's drawing you to the WX5 we'd recommend taking a look also at the Fujifilm W3, which adds on the ability to view the images in..." - Jan 11 2011 More » | |
| Imaging Resource: "Both the wide-angle and telephoto zoom settings of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX5 show minor blurring in the corners of the frame compared to what we see at center. At wide-angle, though blurring isn't overly strong, it does extend further into the main image area than average. Still, very good corner sharpness for a 24-120mm eq. lens in a compact digicam. Overall color is fairly good, though bright yellows are so..." - Nov 30 2010 More » |

Some shortfalls, Average consumer - Dec 21 2011
Negatives: -image stabilizer is a little weak for video, when you start to zoom in or out it causes the lens to jerk or twitch because of the slight play in the mechanism -despite the good lcd resolution it's a little difficult to tell if you are focusing properly -battery life is kind of short, and if you turn the dial to video mode the stabilizer runs full time...

This is my second purchase of this camera. I have two daughters who love the quality of pictures that this camera takes. It is expensive but well worth the money. I also give high praise to the customer service that I received from Sony!!!! That means a great deal to me....
