Pentax 645D Camera Reviews Roundup
| pdn: "Well, I finally conquered my white whale and it was worth the pursuit. I still have mixed emotions over whether this camera was worth the wait for professional photographers. While there's a lot I like about the Pentax 645D, including its relatively reasonable price for a medium-format camera; it's intuitive operability and surprisingly ergonomic design; and, above all, it's excellent image quality that puts most di..." - Mar 16 2012 More » | |
| DJOP: "This uses a built-in AF actuator, and while not as fast to focus as a 35mm AF system it's pretty rapid and accurate. In addition to the electronic interface for the SDM type AF lenses, the 645D features a built-in AF motor using the screw type mechanical coupling. Unlike the Leica, then, the 645D can also call on the older 645 lenses; they're all compatible, according to Pentax, including one with a central shutter...." - Nov 28 2011 More » | |
| RegHardware: "Although the 645D is compatible with most old Pentax lenses, which are notoriously good and cheap, these simply do not compare to the glass available on the new Hasselblad, Phase One or Leica models. At present Pentax has released only one digitally-optimised lens, the SMC Pentax-DFA 645 1:2.8 55mm AL (IF) SDM AW, which I used in this test shoot. While Pentax offers 15 lenses compatible with this model, however, lat..." - Feb 04 2011 More » | |
| Imaging Resource: "Many points where the Pentax 645D varies significantly from its prosumer siblings - beyond the medium format lens mount and sensor, and the pro-friendly body with features such as a mirror lock-up knob - is in its variables relating to exposure. Burst shooting is possible at 1.1 frames per second for 15 JPEG or 13 Raw frames. Shutter speed ranges from 1/4,000 to 30 seconds plus bulb (with noise reduction after 30 se..." - Dec 06 2010 More » |

Like this camera, I.Dapper - Apr 04 2013
I bought this camera just about a year ago after renting one for a weekend try-out. The one I rented didn't come with an instruction book, and the guy behind the counter at ACE Camera in the DC area said to me: "Punch a button, and if the front control dial doesn't do it, the back control dial will." It too me all of 15 minutes to figure out how to use the camera. If you'...
Mixed emotions., DOBrien "We review stuff." - Mar 26 2012
(If you don't like specifics, just know that this is a 3.5 star review and jump to the conclusion!) After having spent a few days with this camera, I though it was time to come and share some of my thoughts on it. I am a wedding photographer, and decided to give this thing a rent (Lensrentals is a wonderful company btw) to see if at some point would be inclined to invest in the Medi...

Good but limited, A Reader "snailgate" - Feb 21 2012
OK, full disclosure. I have not purchased this camera. main reason: limited availability of lens's in the USA. I want a super sharp 100mm lens, a good autofocus zoom to 300mm,and something to 500 or 1000mm. Not interested in a 50 or an 80. As for the camera, why no image stabilization? For strictly tripod use, it looks great, technically....
