Canon Powershot A1100 IS Review by MacWorld

The Canon PowerShot A1100 IS is
a 12.1MP resolution (1/2.3-in. CCD) entry-level digital camera which
captures good images with a 4x optical zoom (35-140mm equiv.), a
2.5-in. LCD (115K dots), optical viewfinder and Movie 640-480 @ 30fps.
The camera also comes with the new DIGIC 4 processor, which enables the camera to access information taken from thousands
of images to correctly choose the proper shooting mode for the current
scene or subject you are framing. It also helps improve focus speed,
accuracy, exposure and white balance. Other new additions include
Canon's i-Contrast technology as well as Face Self-Timer, which waits
for an additional face to enter the frame before capturing the image. Here is the conclusion of the review from MacWorld, giving the camera a rating of 4 out of 5:"Image quality should always be your primary concern when making a camera choice, and in this regard the A1100 delivers. Its 12-megapixel sensor packs enough pixels for very large prints (you can easily use the camera's photos as 13-by-19-inch prints). Color is very good, and the camera's lens delivers good sharpness and suffers from no discernible distortion, vignetting, or chromatic aberration. One of the most surprising things about the A1100 is its low noise. Shooting up to ISO 400 is surprisingly clean, and even higher speeds, such as 800 and 1600, are very usable, even in low light. Certainly there are cameras that perform better at these speeds, but they're also much more expensive.
You get a lot for $200 when buying a camera these days. The PowerShot A1100 IS provides a very good price/performance ratio, and it's even available in four fashionable colors (blue, green, grey, and pink). If you're looking for a good entry-level camera, you should consider the A1100.The A1100 also offers an exceptional macro mode, which lets you get as close as 1.2 inches from your subject. You can even use it with the camera's very good video mode, which shoots 640 by 480 video with sound".

Canon Powershot A1100 IS Camera Reviews Roundup
| CameraLabs: "The Canon Powershot A1100 IS is a great budget-priced compact which offers simple point-and-shoot operation with a degree of control for those who want a little more involvement with their photography. Although not the most compact of designs by today's standards, it looks good, feels robust and is comfortable to hold. The 4x optical zoom just about provides wide enough coverage to cope with most of the typical phot..." - Dec 13 2009 More » | |
| CNET: "For the money the A1100 IS has very good photo quality. Color, contrast, and white balance are particularly good, though there is some highlight clipping. Characteristic of point-and-shoots, photos are best in bright lighting at sensitivities below ISO 200. Graininess/noise becomes readily noticeable at ISO 400, but for the most part details remain decent enough for use at 8x10 or smaller sizes. The camera goes..." - Jul 09 2009 More » | |
| Cameras.uk: "The Powershot A1100 IS is an adaptable digital camera. It can handle most photographic opportunities. I was impressed by the overall look of the photos I took, especially the levels of sharpness. The Powershot A1100 IS is functional rather than beautiful It is made out of plastic and looks like a cut down version of a more traditional camera. It is available in silver, blue and pink. Picture quality with the Ca..." - May 22 2009 More » | |
| PCWorld: "In our lab tests, the A1100 had an excellent overall image quality score for its price category, though it dropped to the middle of the pack in our sharpness ratings. While I used the A1100, I couldn't find any discernible distortion, vignetting, or chromatic aberration. One of the nicest things about the A1100 is its low noise. Shooting at up to ISO 400 is surprisingly clean--and even at ISO 800 and 1600 in low lig..." - Apr 27 2009 More » |

Fuzzy, C.M.77 "CM" - Aug 30 2010
I had 3mp and 8mp cameras that I feel took better pictures. Most of my problems were with indoor pictures coming out fuzzy and/or pixelated. There is an easy setting and even with using this function I still had poor picture quality. I know this has a 12.1 MP, but to me it is of no use if the pictures come out the way they did. I did read the manual and even with following the sug...

Last of the compact cameras with a viewfinder. Image stabilizaton, advanced electronics, 2 aa batteries, and many options. A really great camera. Only negative , there is no user manual-only a cd. This presents a problem when you are travelling and need to check something....
Great little camera, ceomom - Aug 28 2010
Love this camera and I keep it in my bag at all times. It takes great photos for every day snapshots when a dslr is not convenient to carry. The only complaint I have is the lack of a Sports mode. The Children and Pets mode is the closest I can find and it does an alright job with kids. However, although I've gotten a few good sports shots with it, it's still on the slow side and not...
