Olympus TG-320 Camera Reviews Roundup

Steve's Digicam - Jul 23 2012
"Looking at our indoor images, we see the same image noise, even when using the lowest ISO settings. Once you get to ISO 800, the images are starting to get very soft; and we recommend you keep the ISO below 800 if possible. 1600 is definitely a setting to stay away from unless absolutely necessary. Assisting with your low-light and indoor shooting is a comp..." More »

"The Olympus Tough TG-320 produces images which are really well exposed with very pleasing colour reproduction. Detail is good at both ends of the lens, soft in the corners and with some purple fringing in high contrast areas. In super macro mode the camera has a minimum focusing distance of 2cm, allowing decent close-up shots to be taken. Noise is minimal a..." More »

CNET AU - Mar 19 2012
"The TG-320 delivers images that are fine for a camera of this class, particularly for sharing online at reduced resolutions. Photos at 100 per cent magnification look over-processed and slightly crunchy, a trait that we have seen on other tough cameras before. When shooting in automatic mode, colours are slightly muted and not as saturated as they could be...." More »

User Review of the camera - Olympus TG-320

    Fantastic, Lisi "~Lisi"
This camera was great, took beautiful pictures underwater. This was my first underwater camera. When it came, I thought perhaps they sent me the wrong item. It did not look like what I pictured. It looked like a normal camera. It wasn't bulky, didn't have a plastic protection.
The year I purchased the camera I took it to the pool, the beach and to Dourney park in PA. It took quite the beating from my kids, we threw it to one another in the pool. They were excited to take pictures underwater.
It took fantastic pictures underwater and out on dry land. It was small enough to fit in my back pocket. The only downside was the way it charges. It requires a different charger than normal and the kids couldn't see the pictures on the display in the car because I couldn't charge it. Right now, I can't find the charger, which is the only reason I remember about the battery.
It is a good camera at a great price, but the charger is not ideal. I think it's a proprietary charger, whatever happened to making all chargers micro usb?

    Overall good deal, Christopher webb
Great for anything near or in water. Picture quality isn't the best but what you lose in quality you gain in durability.

I have had 2 of 2 break on vacations snorkeling - very disappointing to come home with only a few pictures, r chan
This is ridiculous. I am writing to spare you the grief of coming home with no pictures (& I'm disgusted with Olympus). I don't ever write reviews, but I am writing now after being turned down by Olympus to honor a warranty on a this camera that was 2 months too late because I only use it only for occasional snorkeling/water vacations & the last one fell 2 months too late.
I have had it with Olympus cameras. This was the second one to break, on the FIRST salt-water vacation. And I don't believe I ever mishandled it.
This camera CAN NOT take salt water, period. I am not sure about fresh water.
It's not worth any amount of money.
Buy a GO PRO. They are AWESOME & hold up very well. They are worth the money.

    Disappointing., juliart "juliart"
I have had Olympus Film cameras and they have all been excellent but not this Digital one. The sound quality is poor. Makes a clanking noise which makes the natural sound unusable. Also the word TOUGH is a misnomer. It fell out of my pocket which is about 2 feet and landed on some dirt. Cracked the strobe plastic. Now it is useless underwater. I called Olympus and because it is over a year old they will not repair it. So if you drop it on a soft dirt or sand make sure you do it before the year is up. I would not recommend this Olympus TG-320 Tough to anyone even an enemy! Spend a little more and buy a Canon or Nikon.

    Great so far, josegve
I have not used the camera in a hostile environment as yet so cannot comment on the "Tough" part. The rest is great. Videos are very sharp with good sound. The pictures are also up to mark for the camera specifications. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Observation: Didn't give it 5 stars because one of its main features is being "Tough" and like I said I really haven`t dunked it in the pool yet.

Not what I was expencting froma a waterproof dust proof shockproof camera...., moncho52
Bought this camera to have it on the pocket while traveling, the idea was to have decent quality pictures with a lot of reliability (Not having to worrie about water/dust or drops)
The reality is, although shockproof/waterproof this camera has: Not good quality pictures (I almost could say bad quality)
and needs a Special cable for charging it.
The worse of all was that it stopped working just a couple of days after warranty expired... (first the charging cable, then the camera)
Maybe it was just bad luck, I would say don't buy cheap...

DON'T BUY IF YOU WANT WATERPROOF, Tom Cody "TKC"
FIRST TIME USING THIS CAMERA UNDERWATER AND IT LEAKED. I TRIPLE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE IT WAS IN THE 'LOCKED' POSITION AND SAFE TO USE UNDERWATER. I WENT IN NO MORE THAN 3 FEET OF WATER AND IT LEAKED WATER INTO THE BATTERY AND SD CARD COMPARTMENT. ALSO, THE PICTURE QUALITY IS NONE TOO GOOD EITHER

tough as (paper) nails, Marcin Matusiak
I bought this camera for my son. He is not a very keen photographer, but whenever he tries to use the TG-320 actively (on holidays) it fails. I have just send it to the manufacturer third time. The camera spent more time at the service center than in my home. It is still on warranty, but it costs time, effort, and shipment every time it breaks. One day the warranty will be gone, and I will be left with this piece of garbage.

Toughest camera I've ever met, Katy
I love these cameras, i have purchased well over 100 of them for my company. they are being phased out for a newer, more expensive one and i'm very sad about that. i cant tell you how many horrible things these cameras go though and still come out working like a champ. Dropped from heights, dropped in grease, skidding across rooftops, dropped in buckets of corrosive chemicals, thrown at walls, fallen on concrete/pavement/rock/puddles more then any little camera should be able to handle, but it does it and 9 times out of 10, they are fine. The screen cracks sometimes when something really bad happens to it, but it works even with a cracked screen usually.

Worked great until stolen in peru, LTCRET "real person"
I bought this for my sons who went to Macho Picho (SP). Peruvian SOB'S stole it and my son did not think to take the memory card out. The card was the best part. So they got it all and all the pics, I had put a really good 32GB card in it so they could shoot away. My son's are less critical than this old Army LTC. I would never have left the camera and memory (memories) in the same place. The boys really liked the camera and its water resistant features.

We love this camera, Joshua K.
Can't say enough about this camera, when the weather is nasty/rainy/or we're at the beach in the humid salt spray we leave the phones in the safety of the truck and break this out without having to worry about it. It's taken some great pictures and stood up to some mild abuse being tossed around in bags and gear boxes. Very happy with this purchase.

Great camera, held up to salt water and many drops, Classy S.O.B.
I've used this camera in salt and freshwater and never had a problem with leaks. I don't like the proprietary cable aspect, but I got a few aftermarket batteries for it and plug-in wall chargers so I can charge several batteries at once and if I lose the cable, it just means I have to take the USB card out of the camera to load photos to my computer. With a few extra batteries, I can take this camera for a long camping trip and not have to worry about not getting photos the last day of the trip. The photo quality is good, I'm no expert, but I took several photos of a fish my friend was reeling in with the camera underwater and they turned out great, even though the fish was thrashing about. It's a great camera for the price. I wouldn't go scuba diving with it, but if you're just taking photos under the surface of the water, it's plenty good. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is the fact that I can't just use a USB cord to charge it. Companies need to learn that consumers are tired of carrying around 5 charge cables because they make more money by making us purchase extra cables and chargers.

    Needs work., mary carroll
I'm slowly getting use this camera. I had a Fuji and found it much easier to use. The pictures come out fine but it seems to use up the batteries really fast.

I like it, but it could use some improvement., D. S. "Tigerfish313"
The focus on this camera is not amazing, even with the specific scenes set. It isn't bad though. There was one time that water leaked into the battery compartment, but I had left the camera soaking in the sink (as instructed) for far longer than the recommended 10 minutes. It hasn't happened since then, so I'm sure it was just due to the very extended time spent underwater, and it had no effect on the camera at all, so it turned out fine.
