Sony DSC-W350 14.1 Megapixel Ultra Compact

Among the five new CCD Cyber-shot cameras Sony introduced, the DSC-W370 and DSC-W350, are equipped with Sweep Panorama Technology. First introduced in Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-HX1, DSC-TX1 and DSC-WX1 CMOS models, this technology allows you to capture wide or high images by shooting images continuously and then stitching them together to create full panaromic pictures size of 7152 x 1080 (horizontal wide panorama mode) after only one "press and sweep" motion.

DSC-W370 camera featuring a 7x long zoom lens, a 3-inch LCD screen, Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and HDMI output..is capable of up to 243-degree panorama shots, whereas DSC-W350 model, which boasts being the smallest camera in height and depth in the Sony 2010 line and features 4x optical telescopic zoom, Carl Zeiss wide angle 26mm equivalent lens, 2.7-inch LCD screen, is capable of 268-degree panorama shots. Both cameras can record HD movies in 720p high definition MP4 format up to 29 minutes (or up to 2GB file size).

The other three new models include DSC-W330, DSC-W310 and DSC-S2100 which boast thin, stylish designs along with longer zoom and wide-angle lenses. W330 camera sports a large 3-inch LCD screen and a 4x Carl Zeiss lens with a wide angle 26mm equivalent lens, whereas W310 model has a 2.7-inch LCD screen and 4x zoom with wide angle 28mm equivalent lens. And the last member, the S2100 model, rather addresses your basic camera needs with a 3x zoom, 3-inch LCD screen and powered by AA batteries.

Sony DSC-W350 Camera Reviews Roundup

StevesDigicam: "Our outdoor sample shots show that the camera handles exposures very well, and depending on your shooting mode, provides you with very realistic colors. Program mode provided us with the more realistic colors, while the colors in the iAuto shots are far more saturated, which all comes down to your personal preference. Our indoor sample images produced a good exposure without the flash and accurate colors with o..." - Jul 24 2010 More »

CameraLabs: "In terms of image quality, the W350 suffered from patchy processing artefacts at 200 ISO and up which are quite apparent in our Sample Images Gallery. It's not a problem for smaller prints or casual viewing on-screen, but if you're into big prints or examining at 100%, you may be disappointed. The lens range and wide-angle coverage is impressive for the body size, but almost inevitably there's some optical comp..." - May 23 2010 More »
CNET: "The photo quality is very good for a camera in this price range, but there are some issues. The camera is capable of consistently fine-quality snapshots, particularly outdoors in daylight. Sensitivities go from ISO 80 up to ISO 3,200, but usability for prints above 8 by 10 inches drops off at ISO 200. This is because, even at ISO 80, photos viewed at full size have noise that only gets more pronounced as the sensiti..." - Feb 12 2010 More »

User Review of the camera - Sony DSC-W350

    SONY always innovating, gativelo
Beatiful camera, zoom acceptable, the size is very small, looks beatiful!!! The panorama funtion is exceptional and innovator. The memory is SD or SPD, is your choose and is an plus to sony. I recommend it!

Do not buy!, H. Yates "Hay"
It does not matter how the camera operates IF you NEED a 'SPECIAL' Sony card that fits no other gadget, a 'SPECIAL' Sony reader so consumers can access their photos. And worse the no consumer support, and if your camera is under warranty good luck getting any satisfaction. These are not suppose to be disposable cameras and they should last longer than 9 months! After your camera breaks you not only have that to toss but the card and reader! Sony corp are vampires out to suck your wallet dry DO NOT BUY!! you have been warned.

    Great little camera, Courtney Bradbury
Bought this as a replacement for the older 7.1mp model. It is a lot smaller and lighter but the basic layout of the camera is still simple and easy to use. I have yet to try all the feature or attempt a print, but all indications are this is a great little basic point and shoot camera.

    works perfect for me, Ravi
Apart from the still pictures the movie mode which i use to shoot videos is excellent and overall its exceeds my expectation.

    Great cam, Greg Brooker "TechExpert"
I got this a few months ago for my mom. It is a great camera, great video everything. My only wish is that I had gotten one with a little better zoom to catch a few extra shots but this one is great enough. I takes photos fast and with great detail. my only real concern is the lens, several times when turned off the little shutting doors in the front didnt close correctly and I had to turn it on and off again to make it close right. And you can hear the lens system working inside if you listen, this kinda concerns me but it has not given any problems and my mom and I are quite happy with it. Just make sure to get at least a 8GB MMC cuz this cam fills up cards quickly as each pic is about 5-6Mbs in size.

HD function must be played back through camera, KMOD
There is very little to dislike about this camera.
The design is ultra sleek and the panorama view is like having a fish eye lens.
The ability to capture images at night under artificial light is impressive.
    For me this is keeper.
One issue is the HD playback.
I generally record and playback directly from the flash card through my card reader on my computer.
The VGA plays back fine but the HD formats are not recognized by my windows media player. I was able to get the HD to play using Quick time.
The other is the noisy video Zoom, not only is it noisy but it is anything but smooth. The Zoom jumps from one extreme to the other so quickly there is very little ability to control it.
The camera appears to be sturdy but the care warnings make it seem quite fragile and subject to damage form a variety of normal situations.
    Would I recommend this camera?
For snap shots, and youtube videos it will work fine.
The panorama view is top notch. Amazing performance under artificial light.
Not the best choice for shooting videos that require the use of a zoom.

    Great Pocket Camera!, heatherdehn
Love this camera! We use the panoramic shot all the time and love the option! One complaint my daughter has is you cannot shoot in black & white or sepia but this is so easy to change later it doesn't matter much. shutter speed is nice, it take a second for the display to pop up but it's only the display, the actual picture snaps fast!

    Slightly disappointed, J. Wu
My family has been a Sony family for a few years now. My dad has one of the older cybershot models and I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H7, both which are fantastic cameras. I was expecting a camera of the same caliber, but just 2 weeks after I bough the DSC-W350, the quality of the pictures became completely distorted. The coloration changed so that it would have tinted yellow outlines around certain objects. It took about 3 weeks for them to ship it to the Sony factory and back, (at least I bought a warranty from Best Buy). Although the picture quality is fixed, the camera itself lags a lot; it switches modes back and forth a few times by itself when you open the camera sometimes. It also takes a while to take pictures. I'm not sure if it is just my camera, but it is really annoying, and I'm starting to wish I tried out a Canon camera.
The quality of the pictures (when it wasn't tinted yellow and distorted) are good though, probably the one good quality of this camera. The panorama shots are pretty sweet as well.

    camera, camera dude "camera dude"
Camera works great. I noticed no noise when zooming in and out during a movie as others said that they did. I had a slight problem at first. When I took outdoor pictures, The pics were coming out slightly blurry, but then I realized that the flash was also going off so I changed the settings and turned flash mode off and all outdoor pictures came out clear.
Anti-shake feature seems to only work in picture mode and not in movie mode.
Mic built into camera has good audio quality and picks up and is very sensitive to even the lowest sound levels.
Haven't found a timer feature for self portraits, but I just got it and haven't read all the instructions.
Absolutely love the HD Video movie feature, but I wish it came with a HDMI cord. You need a special cord to attach this camera directly to your HD TV.

Great camera for the price, H. Leonard
I previously owned a Canon but it was stolen. At first I was angry but realized it was an opportunity to replace my 5 yr old camera for a newer model. I initially was going to get another Canon but read many reviews stating their picture quality was not as good as it used to be. I happened to see this camera for sale for only $129 and gave it a chance. I have been pleased with the results and now feel like someone did me a favor.

good camera, short battery life, TingTahWan
Good compact camera, "easy" setting automatically adjusts settings. Battery life much shorter than previous cyber shot models I've used.

Doesn't last and Sony doesn't stand by it, Benjamin T Caldwell
We were initially very satisfied with the camera. It's a point-and-shoot, so there are typical compromises in terms of customization and image distortion. It was sleek and took good snapshots though.
That was for three months of normal use - no exposure to rain, no water spills on it, nothing. After three months, we noticed that the autofocus light was stuck on so we sent it in for repair. A week later, they call back to let us know that the unit had corrosion on the inside and so the warranty was voided. This is after three months of gentle use, with the camera traveling in a case and again, with no exposure to water. So a total loss after we'd done everything right to take care of it.
This is the second time I've had to write off a Sony product, and it'll be a long time before I buy anything else they make.

    Great for travel, J. Green
Got the camera a day before I traveled to Asia and Africa. Very easy to use, and the photos were great quality.

Good camera but can get better, C. Cuesta
I buy this camera for my Europe trip and select a Sony for the "prestige" of the brand and because I want to try something different of Kodak.
The size and weight are excellent but the menu can get better and more practical. The battery runs out super fast. Sometimes I turn it up to take pictures and discover the battery is dead.
Another unpractical tool is the cable. It bring together the USB and the AV adapter making it big and uncomfortable to transport.
Last but not less important the camera miss the focus when you are in move (photo & video)
For me, my old Kodak works better than this one in a lot of aspects. This one is only better in the quality of pictures, the panoramic pictures and that take pictures faster.
Lets see how she is when I am in Europe.

Good camera for the price, D. Gerds "BargainFinder"
I did a lot of research on mid-range cameras in the $150-$200 price range and this camera stuck out. After reading generally positive reviews on Amazon, I decided to take the plunge. I started using the camera on a trip to NYC and it worked great during the day. My only complaints came at night when the lighting conditions were severe. There was either too much light or too little light, depending on where we were in the city. I liked the panoramic feature, which I thought was a nice compliment to the low price. Overall, this is a great point-n-shoot, but if you're looking for a camera that will take excellent pictures in all dark lighting conditions, you may want to look further.

    Loved this camera, PJ
This camera was such a great deal for the price. The picture quality is sharp and it's so easy to use. Switching from picture to video is just a slide of a button. The video quality is HD. No fuzzy videos where you can barely make out someone's face. Plus this thing is compact and lightweight so it's easy to tote in my purse or my pocket.

Awesome point and shoot camera, Eleora "Designer, Artisan, Writer"
From the product research I've done, this camera has the best features for the price. Even though I have brand loyalty to Sony, I seriously considered comparable Nikon and Canon cameras before deciding to purchase this one. The easy mode is great, the intelligent scene selection is especially helpful in low light settings because it automatically takes a second shot with different settings so you can choose the best one and I have already been glad for that. Its nice to be able to turn all the auto modes off as well to shoot manually. The menu is straight forward for the most part, although there are times when I am still looking in the wrong place for a setting. The macro mode is also very nice for a point and shoot and I have taken gorgeous close ups of jewelry and flowers.
Picture quality is wonderful and so is the HD video quality, for the value. The panoramic feature is a bonus that similar cameras do not offer, although I haven't tried it out yet. Small, lightweight size fits easily in a lady's jean pocket or purse which is a huge plus!!! Yes, the exterior is plastic-y but for the price point and value, I'm very pleased. Internal memory is low, but to me that is not a big deal at all because I'm used to relying on memory sticks and to me the only purpose of internal memory is as a back-up if your memory card is full.
I have a 7 year old Sony Cybershot with 3 megapixels and it still works perfectly, but I needed a higher res model. The Sony products I have purchased within the last 10 years still function so I am usually willing to spend a little more for Sony products because they have always lasted. Product longevity is something that really contributes to saving our environment as well--the longer we keep and use a product the fewer cheaper models end up in a landfill somewhere.

Enhanced Colors, compact, HD video, but difficult navigation, Deepak Radhakrishnan
This is an excellent camera for beginners. I own multiple cameras including SLRs, and this one is a very good camera for taking colorful pictures.
The images are more saturated and warmer which makes it a great camera for taking images of kids or color filled environment. This is the bad part about the camera too, as it does not preserve natural colors.
    Pros:
    1. Compact
    2. Very affordable
    3. Good Video resolution
    Cons
    1. Difficult to navigate to settings
    2. Feels less durable
    3. Picture quality is bad(like images taken from Mobile Phone)
Pro & con: Images are more color-saturated and warmer.
