Canon Inc., Tokyo, Japan, was named the Best Company in Japan in 2005, for two years in a row, as a result of the “PRISM” research, a multifaceted corporate evaluation system jointly developed and conducted by Nikkei Newspaper and Nikkei Research.
Canon gained the maximum score of 1,000 to be listed on the top. The company has acquired high scores in such factors as “flexibility,” “profitability/growth potential” and “R&D power,” because of its excellent business results to renew records of net profit for six years in a row. Its score in terms of “juvenility” ended up at 223rd place with 59 out of 100 points, reports JPEA International PEN News Weekly.
Positions of other imaging-related makers were as follows: Kyocera (15th), Sharp (20th), Ricoh (23rd), Toshiba (25th), Sony (49th), Casio (75th), Fujifilm (80th), Konica Minolta (133rd), Nikon (142nd), Olympus (181st), Epson (268th), Pentax (415th), Noritsu (475th), and Nidec (490th), says PEN News Weekly.
The “PRISM” research is a system designed to evaluate companies’ strength by counting scores on the four factors of “flexibility & CSR implementation capability,” “profitability & growth potential,” “research & development power” and “juvenility.” The research was conducted on 2,185 Japanese companies listed at Tokyo Stock Exchange or unlisted but regarded as leading companies in various fields.

Complete Digital Photography compared the Canon EOS 30D and Nikon D200 cameras. The conclusion is…Both Canon and Nikon offer excellent lower-priced alternatives to these cameras. The Canon Rebel and Rebel XT, and the Nikon D50 and D70s are all great cameras with good features sets and excellent image quality. However, they are all hampered by slower performance, mostly in the form of slower burst rates and slightly slower recycle times. Some of them also lack some of the features of the mid-range models. If you have found that the entry level SLRs don’t pack the features that you need, then the 30D and D200 are probably more in line with what you’re looking for.
“First the good news: both of these cameras deliver excellent images, whether you choose to shoot raw or JPEG. Yes, if you search through hundreds of images, you will definitely find some instances where the 30D performed slightly better than the D200. But right next to these, you’ll most likely find a set of instances where the D200 performed slightly better than the 30D. In both cases, you’ll probably find that any differences are easily corrected using simple adjustments.
With that said, it is worth noting that the 30D performs a little better at high ISO than the D200, particularly when shooting in low light, with long exposures. Both cameras provide built-in long-exposure noise reduction capabilities, but the D200 is noticeably noisier at ISO 800 and 1600, especially in very dark situations. What’s more, the noise manifests as both chrominance and luminance noise, meaning you’re gonna have your work cut out for you if you want to try to remove it. Note that the noise is not terrible, it’s just worse than what you find from the 30D. If you don’t do a lot of low-light shooting, then this will rarely - if ever - be a concern.”
Website: Should you buy a Canon EOS 30D or Nikon D200?

Here’s the summary of the review: “Image quality easily lives up to all the great gizmos and gadgetry at your disposal with metering and focusing particularly good, the former very pleasing even in very trying situations and the latter crisper than a Pringle crisp in a freezer. Colour modes and setting, which include a vivid, natural and muted modes, with each being further adjustable for contrast, sharpness and saturation.
VERDICT
The E-500 is so packed with kit there’s not room to go over it all here, suffice to say this is as comprehensively specified DSLR as you’re likely to want (or need). At £600 for the standard kit that includes the 14-45mm lens used in the test, it’s great value and with independent lens makers such as Sigma backing the Four Thirds standard, it looks set to grow and grow. In short, if you’re looking for a compact, lightweight DSLR that packs a punch in almost all departments, then you would do far worse than stopping your search right here.”
